CONFERENCE CELEBRATES PRIDE
By SEBASTIAN MELMOTH
The Fifth Annual All-Ohio Lesbian/Gay/Feminist Conference scheduled for April 2628 promises to be an exciting and productive weekend, justifying its Celebration of Pride theme. This year's Conference continues many past traditions while expanding last year's increased participation by women and adding some significant new features, all signalling broader community support.
Festive Opening Night The opening keynoter will be Judy Grahn, San Francisco poet and historian. Her speech will be preceded by the usual reception. Arranged this year by HUGS (Hope,
Understanding, Giving, and Support) and the Lesbian/Gay Community Services Center (operated by the GEAR Foundation) the reception begins at 7p.m. in Baker Lounge, next to the auditorium.
Afterward, at 9 p.m. the Eleanor Roosevelt Gay Political Club will host a party whose title, A Celebration of Pride, echoes the Conference theme.
A Busy Saturday
Saturday offers a full day of activities. These begin at 9 a.m. with registration, coffee and doughnuts at Thwing Center and continue until early Sunday morning.
At 9:30 participants may engage in a period of organPage 12, col. 1

Washington--The U.S. Government added more fire this month to the debate over its handling of the AIDS crisis after issuing a broad recommendation that members of high-risk groups should be "encouraged" to take the HTLV-3 AIDS antibody test. In its March 14 report, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services made its strongest statement yet that testing is a crucial part of AIDS prevention.

GAY AND LESBIAN INSTITUTE FORMS
By DORA FORBES
Organizing the workshops for the Fifth Annual AllOhio Lesbian, Gay and Feminist Conference is the first public action of a new Cleveland organization, the Gay and Lesbian Institute (GALI).
Founded in 1985, the Institute was incorporated as a non-profit educational organization this year. It is a collective organization of lesbian and gay profession-
als committed to continuing personal and professional development within the community.
Philosophy
In a statement describing the Institute's philosophy, its members say, "We...share a need to develop and nurture our people--as they stand alone, as they couple, as they gather in families and groups, and as they form themselves into organizations. We commit ourselves to educating, training, and
consulting in order to foster a sense of community among us and among our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters. We believe it is this sense of community which provides hope for new life and a foundation for working in the larger
world.
